About Blooming Art…WHY WE NEED FLORAL DESIGNERS… AND What Is THEIR ROLE:
Blooming Art is the Martha’s Vineyard Garden Club's major fundraiser of the year. The Club charges admission for members of the public to view the show which is held at the Old Mill in West Tisbury. (The Summer ‘home’ of the MVGC.) Garden Club members volunteer as docents to greet members of the Community and guide them through the Blooming Art Show and some act as greeters to collect admission. We encourage attendees to enjoy the art paired with arrangements and hope that the art on display will be purchased. There is a small admission fee that is charged for those attending the show. ($10 per guest)
The MVGC solicits approximately 35 Island artists to participate in Blooming Art. As a Blooming Art floral designer, you will be interpreting a piece of art, (either a painting, sculpture or another art medium) that will be assigned to you (several weeks before the actual event). Blooming Art ‘art’ and the floral designs/arrangements created by our garden club members will be paired with their art piece and will be displayed at the Old Mill for the public to view over the Blooming Art Event dates. (Friday -Sunday) Attendees will be viewing the combination of art paired with the complimentary floral arrangements/ flowers and foliage, and however simple, at the Old Mill the Event is magical.
Floral arrangements/designs are not for sale, but are there to add interest to the show, and to feature the creativity and artistry of our Garden Club members. While thinking through your design, you would be using your own choice and combination of natural materials, flowers and vessel …all of which you would provide and pay for in support of Blooming Art and the Martha’s Vineyard Garden Club. The MVGC arranges for discounts to be extended to the Blooming Art designers from the Island’s Florists and Garden Centers for them to plan and prepare their interpretive Blooming Art arrangements. This event is not only a fundraiser, but also an opportunity for our members to learn about flower arranging in a congenial, collaborative way while getting to know other members and celebrating the arrival of Spring together on the Vineyard.
Additionally, designers are responsible for delivering their arrangements to the Old Mill on the day before the event, and are asked to ‘freshen’ the arrangement each morning prior to the opening of Blooming Art, as well as picking up their arrangement at the conclusion of the event.
