The Martha's Vineyard Garden Club helps at Mytoi!
In the past few years the Martha's Vineyard Garden Club has helped other island organizations with gardening and beautification projects. For the last two years, volunteers have worked at the Rose Styron Garden at the MV History Museum. A group planted the large planters at the entrance to the museum last year as well. This year a team helped residents at Woodside Homes (elder housing) plant their raised beds. Mytoi on Chappiquidick has requested some gardening help and the MV History Museum has requested that we replant the planters there in July and come back again in the fall to plant daffodils on the slope facing the Vineyard Haven harbor. We'd like to formalize these initiatives under the auspices of a Beautification Committee.
Today it was a trip over to Mytoi Gardens on Chappy for a few MV Garden Club members who were happy to work with veteran Mytoi volunteer Lindsay Allison. Lindsay has been a volunteer at Mytoi since the 1970's and reached out to the Club for some assistance a few weeks ago. The Garden Club ladies and Lindsey worked at the Mytoi entrance, weeding and cutting dead wood out of shrubs and the Club volunteers even managed to get a quick tour from Lindsey while there were there! There is more work to be done throughout the garden, mostly more of the same, so the Club will be setting more dates to return as the seasons progress! Thanks to GC volunteers Joan Cavazuti, Susan Hobart and Caroline Taylor for taking the time to do this! What a beautiful place to be connected to and help care for! Check out more pics from Mytoi and the day below!
