Floral Design Creativity with the Martha's Vineyard Garden Club
In the month of July, the Floral Design Committee was asked by Garden Stroll Co-Chairs to create ten teacups with artificial flowers and materials to be on display at The Carnegie in honor of our Club’s Centennial. We hope that you were able to visit The Carnegie and see the lovely exhibit honoring our Club. This was a fun activity for all of us who participated, part floral design, part crafts, and most importantly a lovely, serene gathering with fellow club members. Participating club members were Wiet Bacheller, Ally Doriss, Joan Eville, Jayne Isford, Minor Gibson Knight, Pat Ingalls, Kathy Kitsock, Leah Smith, Susie Wallo and Trudy Williams. To view The Carnegie display and the teacups in conjunction with the exhibit, CLICK HERE!
The Floral Design Committee also created seven teapots that were arranged with with fresh flowers, donated by Morning Glory Flowers. These were on display at the entrance to each garden on the Edgartown Stroll on July 25, and at the check-in entrance. Participants were Nancy Cabot, Allison Doriss, Pat Ingalls, Jayne Isford and Kathy Kitsock.

The Blooming Art Floral Design Team, comprised of Debbie Barrett, Jayne Isford and Fern Vaughan, planned three workshops to assist floral designers in preparation for the Club's Blooming Art event.
Heartfelt thanks to MV Garden Club members Martha Fanelli, Wiet Bacheller and Nancy Cabot for their excellent support, education and patience. Below are some photos from Martha’s workshop held on May 17 and Wiet’s workshop on May 23 with a container swap after the workshop.
A few images from the workshops are below. Thanks to Jayne Isford for supplying the photos and the info...
And THIS HAPPENED in May...
A Foraging Field Trip with Nancy Cabot!
Just a few observations about the foraging expedition:
I was joined by 26 MVGC members for a walk in the State Forest. For many in the group this was the first time they had ever walked there. While not the most picturesque part of the island, all agreed that there was much of interest to see. We hiked through pine forest, hardwood areas, and open fields, observing many signs of spring. While most of the vegetation was in a decidedly transitory state between winter and summer, and therefore not necessarily useful looking ahead to Blooming Art, all agreed that there is much beauty to be found in the State Forest. All participants were reminded of how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful place and the importance of keeping our eyes open wherever we are on our lovely island.

Look What Happened in January... Nancy's Floral Design Challenge!
At our first Membership meeting of 2024, several members participated in Nancy Cabot’s first Floral Design Challenge for this year. Our intent with these challenges is to have members interpret the same piece of art and share these designs with their fellow members, purely for fun, enjoyment and experimenting! The artwork that Nancy chose to interpret was Lucy’s Tangles by Heidi Lang. Heidi attended our membership meeting, and was honored to have her artwork selected, and was so impressed with the interpretations.
Off island members who submitted a design were Joan Cavazuti, Ally Doriss and Fawn Hurwitz. Members on island who created a design were Joan Eville, Susan Hobart, Nancy Cabot, Pat Ingalls, Ty Johnston and Trudy Williams. We thank all of you for your time and talent!
Each of the design interpretations were spectacular and enjoyed by everyone in attendance. The following photos show each of the designs. Stay tuned for another challenge from Nancy in the coming months! Thanks again to our members who participated. We are grateful. ...Jayne and Nancy

The Holiday Wreath Decorating Workshop was
a huge success! On Saturday, December 2 nd , the MV Garden Club held its first Holiday Wreath Decorating Workshop since before the pandemic. Nancy Cabot and Jayne Isford hosted an enthusiastic group of Martha's Vineyard Garden Club members at The Wakeman Center to decorate wreaths carefully selected for us by Paul Mahoney, owner of Mahoney’s Garden Center. Participants enjoyed a light lunch and snacks with cider and tea before starting their decorating. A fun afternoon with great women, camaraderie, and creativity. Veteran Garden Club Member and floral design mentor, Nancy Cabot prepared multiple bows for the wreaths during the workshop. In addition, Nancy created a very large wreath she made from scratch to be hung on the outside of the Old Mill for the holidays. Amazing! Wiet Bacheller, Irene Ziebarth and Ty Johnston helped decorate the wreath. Look for it on the outside of the Old Mill as you drive by this Holiday Season! Thanks to all who participated and to Nancy and Jayne for coordinating this lovely and festive event for our members! Happy Holidays to everyone. The Holiday Wreath Decorating tradition for our Club is back! -photos submitted by Jayne Isford & Joan Eville |
