Floral Design Demonstrations to Support our Blooming Art Designers

May 23 - Floral Design Demonstration, One
Tuesday, May 23 @ The Wakeman Center, Vineyard Haven in their Program Room @ 1:00pm
MV Garden Club member Wiet Bacheller will do an 'information demonstration' designed to provide tips, and suggestions for our Blooming Art floral designers in this informal floral design program.
MV Garden Club member Wiet Bacheller will do an informal floral demo, designed to guide the Blooming Art floral designers through her 'process' from art to arrangement. Wiet will talk about everything she deems important... from her suggestion to meet with your 'artist' once receiving your art piece, to making a container choice and floral and components as she offers tips and suggestions to all new and 'veteran' floral designers! This demonstration is slated for May 23 at either The Wakeman Center or The Old Mill at 1:00pm, (we will let you know which in plenty of time...the location will be announced here, asap.) Wiet wants to let people know that she is not a professional floral design person, but anyone seeing the arrangements she has put forth at past Blooming Art events would argue the point! As a long time, Martha’s Vineyard Garden Club member, Wiet has been a supporting force for all who have asked for her assistance. If you want to be inspired and see floral design simplified (and beautiful!), you won’t want to miss this program!
About Wiet: Wiet was born and raised in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. After high school she was an American Field Service Exchange Student in Wilmington, DE for a year. Wiet later returned to the US to finish college and became a teacher. After retiring from the Tisbury School in 2004 her neighbor, the late Betty Honey, decided that she needed to join the MV Garden Club to fill her time. Betty had been involved with the Garden Club since she was a young girl. Wiet says through osmosis, she learned the love of flowers and arranging from her mother, and during the last 10 years or so of her teaching career, Wiet always made sure that she had fresh flowers in the classroom. When the Morning Glories were in bloom, a 'Heavenly Blue' came to school every day. The students called them 'Good Morning' Flowers.
As far as Art in Bloom goes, Betty Honey made sure that the MV Garden Club was invited to take part in the Boston Museum of Fine Art's Show every year and Wiet wants us to know she had the privilege to assist Mary Lou Perry in this annual project for 3 consecutive years as they represented the MV Garden Club at Art in Bloom in Boston. This was an honor and unforgettable experience for Wiet. Anything Wiet knows about interpreting Art through flower arranging, she will say she learned from Mary Lou Perry. Wiet says Mary Lou is an amazing artist in a myriad of ways and dedicates this bio to her mentor, Mary Lou Perry.

June 6 - Floral Design Demonstration, Three
Tuesday, June 6 at The Wakeman Center, Vineyard Haven in their Program Room @ 1:00pm
MV Garden Club member Nancy Cabot will do a demonstration designed to provide ideas and suggestions for our Blooming Art floral designers. Nancy hopes designers will bring a photo of their art to this program, as she is happy to talk with designers and offer suggestions if there is something they are struggling with.
Interactive Floral Demonstration Workshop with Nancy Cabot
Tuesday, June 6 at 1:00 p.m. at the Wakeman Center in Vineyard Haven.
Open Only to BA Floral Designers and All Garden Club Members
Join former Garden Club President Nancy Cabot for this interactive floral demonstration session. The workshop will feature helpful hints for floral design including choosing and caring for flowers, containers, size and scale of arrangements, accessories, and the mechanics of flower arranging. Known for her calm presence and teaching method, Nancy will instill confidence in your floral design skills. The main focus of Nancy's presentation will be to offer suggestions for how to decide what to emphasize, avoiding problems, do’s and don't's. She is encouraging designers to bring their photos with them to the demo if they have questions, also containers, and accessories they might like to use if they have questions about them. Nancy does not plan to do a complete arrangement but will bring a piece of artwork and some foliage and flowers that she would use and talk a bit about how she made those decisions. Nancy will plan to stay as long as people have questions so that she can address each person’s concerns individually.
About Nancy : Nancy has been a member of the MV Garden Club since she was 19 years old, and served as President of the Club after retirement to the Vineyard in 1999. She worked for 13 years in a garden center/florist shop in Pennsylvania and her other career was as an art teacher in an independent school in New Hope, PA. Nancy participated in the MFA Art in Bloom twice, representing the Martha's Vineyard Garden Club. Nancy has entered flower arrangements in the MV Agricultural Society's Fair since childhood and won her share of ribbons.
After Nancy's stint in the greenhouse/flower business, she worked as an Art teacher for many years in an independent school in New Hope, PA.
Her involvement with MV Garden Club’s Blooming Art goes back to the very first year (suggested by then President Mary Lu Keep.) She called it “Beauty and the Best”. She was serving as Vice President at that time. The show was a great success and for many years The Club did it every other year, soon changing the name to “Blooming Art” as folks found the first name confusing. Because of the continued success, we now present the show every year. In the early years she was involved with procuring the artists, taking in the work, hanging the show, presenting the demo for arrangers, and overseeing the setup of the arrangements with the artwork.
