Friday, Saturday, Sunday ~ JUNE 16, 17, 18
Blooming Art is our Club's Biggest Fundraiser of the Year...and we need YOU to make it a success! They say it takes a Village to raise a Child, well, we say it takes a Vineyard to make our Club's Fundraiser a success!
The Martha’s Vineyard Garden Club’s “Blooming Art” Event is slated for Father’s Day Weekend this year, taking place at the MV Garden Club’s ‘Summer Home’, The Old Mill in West Tisbury.
Blooming Art celebrates the diverse art of Island artists and the talent of its Garden Club members. The Old Mill will be open to the public, Friday and Saturday, June 16 and 17 from 10am - 5pm and Sunday, June 18 from 10am - 3pm for this ‘Blooming Art’ treat! One exciting addition to Blooming Art, 2023 is a ‘silent auction’ where bidders will have an opportunity to ‘win’ a framed Allen Whiting oil on board painting and a signed copy of Allen's book, 'Allen Whiting - A Painter At Sixty'.
The annual event is a celebration that pairs art created by local artists with floral interpretations done by MV Garden Club members. The event was inspired years ago by the Museum of Fine Art, Boston’s ‘Art in Bloom’ exhibition. This year the work of 36 Vineyard artists will be exhibited at the event and available for purchase. Each art piece will be paired with a floral design that was inspired by that work, and created by a member of the MV Garden Club. All artwork sold at Blooming Art will benefit the Club with a portion of the proceeds donated by the artist to the Charitable Initiatives of the MV Garden Club. In addition, there will be a ‘silent auction’ which will allow bidders an opportunity to ‘win’ an Allen Whiting original oil on board painting which he calls 'In The Garden 2020'. Allen has donated this painting to the Club for our Blooming Art fundraising event, and we thank him sincerely for his generosity and support. Visitors to The Old Mill are invited to browse the entire Blooming Art exhibit at their own pace and there will be docents on hand to answer questions throughout the show.
For Blooming Art, 2023 there will be thirty-six artists whose work will be displayed and for sale with the Club receiving a percentage of each sale. The participating artists this year are: Rob Chaunce, Eva Cincotta, Marston Clough, Angela Egerton, Libby Ellis, Valentine Estabrook, Sheila M. Fane, Alena Grady, Lynn Hoeft, Chetta Kelley, Ruth Kirchmeier, Jay Lagemann, Washington Ledesma, Kanta Lipsky, Joyce Maxner, Sarah Moore, Marianne Neill, Alida O’Loughlin, Kathy Poehler, Gail Rodney, Sharon Rosenfeld Scott, Debby Rosenthal, Judith Schubert, Lizzy Schule, Ed Schulman, Rosalie Ripaldi Shane, Alison Shaw, Beth Smith, Taylor Stone, Virginia Stone, Elizabeth Lockhart Taft, Katy Upton, Vineyard Colors, Wendy Weldon, Franny Werthwein and Maureen Williams.
Thirty-eight floral designers who are Martha’s Vineyard Garden Club members will create an arrangement inspired by the work of the above artists. Those designers are: Joan Apt, Debbie Barrett, Elliot Bennett, Deb Boyle, Esther Brandon, Nancy Cabot, Anita Christian, Pam Coblyn, Debra Daley, Katie DeNitto, Marianne Dolezsar, Anna Edey, Joan Eville, Nancy Falb, Connie Hastings, Susan Hobart, Fawn Hurwitz, Kelsey Ivory, Ty Johnston, Janet Jones, Minor Knight, Sarah Lolley, Karen Manning, Theresa Meehan, Sarah Murphy, Penny Nemzer, Nancy Newman, Michelle Oldershaw, Kate Putnam, Laurisa Rich, Brynna Ross, Linda Shaw, Gay Smith, Leah Smith, Caroline Taylor, Fern Vaughan, Susie Wallo and Irene Ziebarth
