The February 21st Meeting: Barbara Fischer is our speaker. Her topic is: Native Perennials for Spring and Fall.
About Barbara Fischer:
Barbara Fischer has been hooked on native plants since she attended a Wildflower Symposium held by The Native Plant Center at Westchester (NY) Community College in 1998. She joined The Native Plant Center shortly thereafter and has served on various committees there ever since. She started a program in Sustainable Gardening in the Adult Education Program at Westchester Community College where she is now an Adjunct Professor. As a Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardener volunteer, Barbara has given talks on native plants, written many “Ask the Master Gardener” columns for a local newspaper, and worked on a number of area volunteer projects. After completing the Horticultural Therapy certification program at the New York Botanical Garden, Barbara ran the after-school greenhouse program for The Children’s Village in Dobbs Ferry, NY and a horticulture program for a geriatric day care center in Yonkers, NY, both for 8 years. In her professional life, Barbara worked as an environmental consultant to corporations, towns and schools on issues of recycling and solid waste. She lives and gardens in Armonk, New York, where she has given her visiting deer names so she can bill them for damages. Barbara's Program: Incorporating indigenous plants in the garden, with a view to encourage more ecological balance and beauty.
