From Robyn Athearn of Morning Glory Flowers:
Annuals are plants that germinate, come into flower, set seed and die in one season or year.
Hardy Annuals are plants with the ability to withstand cold temperatures, thrive with minimal care and produce abundantly for weeks. They are often the first annuals to bloom in the spring. If planted in autumn and given time to develop healthy roots, they can explode into bloom as soon as early spring, at a time when you need flowers the most.
Biennials have a two-year life cycle. During the first year, they grow only the roots, stems and leaves. In the second year they come into flower, produce seeds and die. We grow these as hardy annuals in the fall.

True perennials don’t just reseed themselves or die off after a couple of years.
Short lived perennial are not really perennials :)
Robyn's Favorite Hardy Annuals: Queen Anne's Lace, Monarda, Strawflower, Snapdragons, Calendula, Rubeckia Tribola, Lisianthius, Dill, Poppies, Bachelor Buttons, Feverfew, Scabiosa, Orlaya, Soapwort, Cynoglossom, Stock, Yarrow, Statice, Bells of ireland, Agrostemma, Clarkia, Bupleurum, Nigella
Robyn's Favorite True Perennial: Roses, peonies, lilacs, yarrow, lupines, echinacea, irises, daffodils, hellebore, geum, hypericum, astillble, delphinium, japanese anemone, sea holly, echinops, rudbeckia tribola.

'Picture This' is an awesome app for plant lovers and gardeners that help identify plants using your phone.  Just snap a pic and plant matches will pop up with care and plant information.  A useful tool and costs $39.99 yearly.

Don't know the name of an insect or a spider in your garden? Just point your phone's camera at an insect and let the learning begin!
'Picture Insect' is a great app for nature lovers and gardeners to help identify insects by using your phones camera.  Just snap a pic and the insect matches will pop up with information that applies!  A useful tool (especially when it may be a poisonous type!) Cost is $39.99 yearly.  Recommended by Donna Arold

Like That Garden  (an app for gardeners!)
If you notice a flower you have never seen before (or you forget its name), you can take a photo of it on your smartphone, and the LIKE THAT GARDEN app will give you the flower's name. It works!
