Peony Season on the Island

Though short-lived, peony season never fails to delight. Each spring, these gorgeous blooms emerge in full splendor. Here’s a showcase of the beautiful peonies spotted in member gardens and around the island in 2025.

Peonies have been cultivated for thousands of years and hold a cherished place in both Eastern and Western traditions. Native to Asia, Europe, and North America, they were first prized in ancient China not just for their beauty but also for their medicinal properties. By the 8th century, peonies had made their way to Japanese imperial gardens, and by the 18th century, they were beloved in European landscapes. Today, they are a garden favorite worldwide, symbolizing prosperity, romance, and honor.
