May 15, 2018 Monthly Meeting

THE MAY MEETING is at the Wakeman Center.
The program begins at 1pm.

Program: Our Island's Unique Flora: Special Plants of Martha's Vineyard
With Julie S. Russell, Ecologist, Martha's Vineyard Land Bank Commission

ABOUT THE PROGRAM FOR MAY:
Whether you see the landscapes of the Vineyard every day or dream about them from afar, one thing is certain — the Island is uniquely beautiful and retains a special, ecological character that many other places have lost. This lasting, natural beauty is due in large part to the plants that have flourished here, evolving in our landscape for thousands of years.  This presentation will focus on our Island's unique flora,  including rare plants as well as common plants that one could plant in one’s garden.

ABOUT JULIE S. RUSSELL:
Julie has been the Land Bank’s ecologist since 1999.  She has a B.S. in Wildlife Biology and an M.S. in Zoology and is certified as a wildlife biologist.  As much of the study of wildlife centers around the habitats in which they live,  Julie has developed an extensive knowledge of Vineyard flora as well as a deep appreciation and love of plants.    She is currently working on a certificate in Field Botany from the New England Wildflower Society.
