Heads Up, Flower Arrangers! We need you to sign up for the show...
The dates for this year's show are Thursday, June 21 (Opening Night Celebration) through Sunday, June 24. Invitations to artists go out on February 1.
Each year the Club gets great feedback on the flower arrangements both from the visitors to the show and from the participating artists. The artists are always impressed with the level of talent we have in our club. And, many are first-time arrangers who agreed to participate with great trepidation! Keep in mind that this is not a judged show.
While we are planning to have around 38 artists this year, we would like to have at least 40 arrangers committed. We need to have back-ups ready to come to the rescue when we have dropouts at the last minute. If you’ve never participated, you might consider teaming up with another Club member to create an arrangement. This has worked well for many arrangers in the past.
In late April or early May you will receive a packet that includes a high-quality photograph of the artwork for which you will create your arrangement. A form will give you information about the artist and the work. While many arrangers create their arrangements solely from the photograph, others like to see the actual artwork. This can be arranged, if at all possible. Most artists are happy to let you see their work.
We will have a flower arranging demonstration just for committed arrangers in early May. This will provide the basics of flower arranging, including style, format, how to think about interpreting a piece of art, and creating an arrangement in scale with the particular artwork.
Arrangements will need to be brought to or put together at the Old Mill between 9:00 am and 1:00pm on Thursday, June 21. You must be finished and cleaned up by 1:00 so that the Old Mill can get set up for the Opening Night Celebration that begins at 5:00. (As this is the Club’s major fundraising event for the year, we hope you understand that we cannot provide our club arrangers with free tickets to the Opening Night.)
Included with your commitment to create an arrangement will also be the commitment to check on your arrangement every morning before the show opens. This can include everything from watering to replacing wilted items. Four days is a long time for flowers and/or other materials you may use to continue to look perky and fresh! We want all visitors to the show to see your arrangement looking its best. You will also need to pick up your arrangement on Sunday after the show has closed. You can certainly ask a fellow club member or friend to check on your arrangement on any day that you cannot be there or pick it up for you on Sunday.
